Levan Makhashvili - Can anyone, who looks at the relations between the US-China, China-EU states, their political closeness, their embrace, have a question: Why is this a double standard? This would be a legitimate question

Can anyone, who looks at the relations between the US-China, China-EU states, their political closeness, their embrace, have a question: Why is this a double standard, why is there such an attitude?” - This would be a completely natural and legitimate question, - the Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Parliament, Levan Makhashvili, said in response to the act adopted in the House of Representatives.

According to him, there are people and political forces in both Georgia and America who are trying to cause maximum damage to the possibility of resetting Georgian-American relations, to hinder it, and to poison the current constructive environment with lies.

"Let's not forget what the motivation of these people is, who are initiating new documents with some new, fancy names. We were talking about this exactly a week ago, that a very sensitive but important process of resetting, restoring US-Georgian relations and striving for strategic partnership is underway. But against this backdrop, there are people and political forces in both Georgia and America who are trying to maximally damage this process, disrupt it, and poison the current constructive environment with lies and create perceptions that Georgia's domestic or foreign policy decisions are somehow harming America's regional or foreign policy interests.

It is precisely for this purpose that this is dictated. We can consider these new agreements or resolutions in this context - an attempt to damage Georgian-American relations," said Levan Makhashvili.

For information, the US House of Representatives has passed the Countering China’s Control of the Caucasus Act. The bill was introduced in the US Congress on February 24, 2026.
