EU-Georgia visa dialogue to be held in Brussels today

A meeting within the framework of the visa dialogue between the EU and Georgia will be held today.

The information was initially disseminated by the head of the European Bureau of Radio Liberty, Rikard Jozwiak.

“An important meeting to discuss the possible suspension of visa liberalization,” Jozwiak wrote on social media.

Later, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that according to the EU Visa Regulation ((EU) 2018/1806, Article 8e(9)), during the period of the suspension mechanism, the European Commission must initiate a dialogue with the relevant third country.

"At the invitation of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, the first meeting of the dialogue between the Georgian side and the European Commission will be held in Brussels on June 11, in which representatives of relevant Georgian agencies will participate under the leadership of the Director of the Directorate for International Legal, Consular and Diaspora Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the agency said.
