For the Georgian society, the contrast is clear - now we should have been starting negotiations with the EU regarding accession, but the negotiations are about something completely different: whether we will lose the visa-free regime - this is a direct result of the Dream policy, - Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, stated.
According to Gegelia, Georgia is facing the loss of visa liberalization, which is a very difficult and tragic circumstance”.
“The Georgian Dream regime has achieved its goal - millions of Georgians are facing the risk that, unfortunately, we may lose visa-free travel throughout the European Union. This is a heavy blow to the Georgian people, which is the direct political responsibility of the Georgian Dream political team.
From what we hear from Brussels - the European Commission and the European Parliament, the expectations are quite skeptical. If political processes in Georgia continue like this - if the trampling of the rule of law, political persecution, which is the criterion according to which it is judged whether a visa-free state should have visa-free travel, of course, they will take away visa-free travel.
Papuashvili said they want to destroy the country. Everyone should know that this is shameless propaganda. No one is asking for transformation. Everyone is asking for Georgia to have the rule of law and functioning democratic institutions. Papuashvili calls this the destruction of the country. All Georgians should understand that Europe demands what is good for us, and what is good for us, Papuashvili calls thid the destruction of the country,” said Grigol Gegelia.
A meeting within the framework of the visa dialogue between the EU and Georgia will be held today. The information was initially disseminated by the head of the European Bureau of Radio Liberty, Rikard Jozwiak. “An important meeting to discuss the possible suspension of visa liberalization,” Jozwiak wrote on social media.
Later, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that according to the EU Visa Regulation ((EU) 2018/1806, Article 8e(9)), during the period of the suspension mechanism, the European Commission must initiate a dialogue with the relevant third country.
"At the invitation of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, the first meeting of the dialogue between the Georgian side and the European Commission will be held in Brussels on June 11, in which representatives of relevant Georgian agencies will participate under the leadership of the Director of the Directorate for International Legal, Consular and Diaspora Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," the agency said.
