The system is leaking, and no matter how much the Ministry of Internal Affairs tries to convince us that these are all one-time, episodic acts of violence, we all know very well that in reality this is a systemic practice of torture - we appeal to all of you who have such material to make it public, - reads the joint statement of the Opposition Alliance, with which they respond to the footage of violence by police officers, released by TV Pirveli.
The statement was presented to the public by the representative of the alliance, Giga Lemonjava, at the briefing.
“We saw footage of systemic torture, filmed by the police themselves in the Kobuleti police station, so we call on everyone who does not want to live in such a state to gather at 7:00 PM tonight at the Philharmonic Hall, from where a march will take place.
The system is leaking, and no matter how much the Ministry of Internal Affairs tries to convince us that all of this is a one-time, episodic act of violence, we all know very well that in reality this is a systemic practice of torture, which is established in the Georgian police, in its departments.
A few days ago, we saw footage of people being tortured and humiliated, filmed by chance in Gori. Now we know for sure that MIA employees themselves are recording video footage of torture and then sharing it in various chat rooms.
Here I would like to appeal to everyone who has such material, because we have information and we know that there are people who have material depicting systemic violence, please make this material public. This will, on the one hand, alleviate your own responsibility and, on the other hand, protect others from systemic torture.
I would also like to emphasize that at the time of this torture incident that we witnessed, the head of the Adjara police was Grigol Beselia, based on whose testimony journalist Mzia Amaglobeli is in prison. Does anyone believe that the head of the Adjara police did not know what was happening at the Kobuleti police station? Of course not. Therefore, this violent torture system must end, the regime must be overthrown, and the prisoners of the regime must be freed," Giga Lemonjava said.
