The footage disseminated through the media is yet another proof that we are facing a systemic crime, - this is how the ProtestSHE movement responds to the footage disseminated by TV Pirveli showing violence by police officers.
The joint statement of the Protest-SHE movement with the Philharmonic was presented to the public by the movement's member, Marika Arevadze.
"Yesterday, the footage disseminated through the media, which undoubtedly confirms the violence that occurred in the department, clearly indicates and is yet another proof that we are facing a systemic crime. This must definitely change, but this cannot happen within the framework of demonstrative punishments. Therefore, it is important for society to fight for a change in the system, and not for individual punitive measures, and that too for demonstrative punitive measures," - said Marika Arevadze.
As he noted, they will not stop and will fight until "the system changes and all perpetrators are identified and punished within the framework of the system changes."
One of the members of the movement, Tamuna Giorgadze, also spoke about another case of violence. According to her, she and photographer Levan Zazadze were attacked by an aggressive person a week ago, although they do not know whether the person in question has been arrested.
“Exactly a week ago, we were attacked here in this place by an aggressive person who first verbally and then physically assaulted us. It is worth emphasizing that Levan Zazadze was performing his professional activities, he is a media representative.
Up until now, we, the victims, have not been questioned, no investigative actions have been carried out, no the cameras have been seized. It is unknown to us whether the attacker has been arrested or not.
We have also addressed the Ministry of Internal Affairs in writing regarding the aforementioned incident and requested an investigation of the incident. In addition, we would like to inform you that we have medical documentation showing physical injuries.
Today, we are addressing the media from the crime scene and demanding:
Conduct an effective investigation into the incident; Immediately seize the recordings of the surveillance cameras frim the scene of the incident; Seize the medical documentation that proves the harm inflicted on the victims.
Conduct all other necessary investigative actions to bring the possible perpetrator to justice," said Tamuna Giorgadze.
