Laura Castel: It is unacceptable for politicians to be in prison when they should be in parliament and in public debates, while at the same time some opposition forces are more focused on blaming the government, but forget that their place is in institutions

Spanish MP Laura Castel has called on the opposition to end its boycott and return to parliamentary work.

At the same time, she stated that it is unacceptable for politicians to be in prison when they should be in parliament and participating in debates.

Castel urged politicians on all sides to act better than they are currently doing.

“Freedom of expression, free media, and the right of society to act freely are under pressure [in Georgia]. It is unacceptable for politicians to be in prison when they should be in parliament and in public debates.

At the same time, some opposition forces are more concerned with blaming the government for everything, but forget that their place is in the institutions in which they can and should work. A parliamentary boycott makes no sense and does not help the citizens and society of Georgia. As part of the European United Left, we call on politicians on all sides to act better than they are currently doing. This includes pressuring the government to act in accordance with its constitution and its obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights,” Laura Castel said.
