Organized crime was committed against us only because the Prime Minister and his incompetent government team had no answers to any of the questions we raised, - stated Tata Khvedeliani, MP from the party “Gakharia For Georgia,” in front of the Prosecutor’s Office. Members of the party “Gakharia For Georgia” have submitted a written appeal to the agency requesting the start of an investigation into the physical confrontation in Parliament.
According to her, “despite the fact that footage of the violence was spread on social media and representatives of law enforcement agencies were also present during the attack, the investigation has still not been launched.”
“We are at the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, where we have brought a statement regarding the systemic crime and the violence that everyone saw on television screens on June 26 in the Parliament of Georgia, when an organized, pre-planned act of violence was carried out against our faction. Not only in Georgia, but also abroad, everyone saw these images. It was a pre-planned organized crime, and the assailants whose faces everyone saw very clearly live on air have still not been identified. No appropriate legal response has been given to this. We waited for four days, but the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia remains silent, even though this violence was carried out in the presence of the Minister of Internal Affairs and other representatives of law enforcement agencies. At a time when Mzia Amaghlobeli is locked up in prison for slapping an abusive police officer, and a mother of four children is imprisoned for coloring an election banner with a marker. ‘Georgian Dream’ has become like a violent regime. First of all, we demand justice in the name of those people who have been demanding the restoration of justice in our country for years and answers for all acts of violence carried out by ‘Georgian Dream’ and its members against these people,” Tata Khvedeliani stated.
Khvedeliani also noted that expectations for the launch of an investigation are low, but they intend to use all available levers and fight in the name of the people “whom ‘Georgian Dream’ has been subjecting to violence for years.”
“What expectations should we have, given the events we have seen in recent years? We see the most severe violations of human rights in Georgia, about which the whole world makes its sharp statements, but we will use every lever solely to protect the dignity and rights of those people whose rights are being violated today by ‘Georgian Dream,’ which is using violence only to maintain power. Let me remind you once again that organized crime was committed against us only because the Prime Minister and his incompetent government team had no answers to any of the questions we raised. Our questions concerned the processes of annexation, the economic situation, poverty, and all the acute issues that concern our citizens today. That is why we have submitted the statement and are awaiting a response,” Khvedeliani stated.
For information: On June 26, a verbal and physical confrontation took place in the Parliament’s session hall. MPs from “Gakharia For Georgia” and members of “Georgian Dream” physically clashed with each other.
The verbal and subsequent physical confrontation followed a speech by “Gakharia For Georgia” MP Giorgi Sharashidze, in which he mentioned the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Georgia and said to the Prime Minister: “The whole of Georgia saw those images of how you stood in the corner, which indicates your real role and place in power. Georgia has had many prime ministers, but never one like this.”
The confrontation in the session hall began with a fight between “Gakharia For Georgia” MP Giga Parulava and “Georgian Dream” MP Irakli Kheladze. “Georgian Dream” MP Lasha Talakhadze then joined the confrontation and hit Giga Parulava in the head. In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, Marshal Service employees began removing opposition MPs from the hall, during which Archil Gorduladze clashed with Giga Parulava. Geno Petriashvili also participated in the confrontation. After the involved MPs were removed from the hall, opposition MP Giorgi Sharashidze was confronted by Irakli Kirtskhaliya and Levan Machavariani.
