Everyone knows very well that in the countries of the region, the heads of state, leaders, and representatives of regional countries attend certain events in this or that country that are important for that country, – this is how the Chairman of the Parliament’s Procedural Issues Committee, Davit Matikashvili, responded to a question regarding President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s attendance at the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to Matikashvili, attendance at important events has happened before, is happening now, and will happen in the future.
“Everyone knows very well that in the countries of the region, the heads of state, leaders, and representatives of regional countries attend certain events in this or that country that are important for that country. This has happened before, is happening now, and will happen in the future. We saw the visit of the Iranian delegation to our neighboring country, which was not followed by any reaction. Now, they are trying to turn an absolutely normal factor characteristic and necessary for international diplomacy – whether it is an inauguration, a funeral, or something else – into something where the first persons of the country, spiritual leaders, etc., from the countries of the region attend. They are trying to absurdly label this as a policy of our state that the state does not pursue.
The minimal economic relations existing between Georgia and Iran are proof of this,” Davit Matikashvili stated.
