Tbilisi City Court left Giorgi Udzilauri in pre-trial detention - The case moved to the stage of substantive hearing

The Tbilisi City Court left Giorgi Udzilauri, who was detained on charges of espionage and is the head of one of the departments of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance and the former head of public relations at “Cartu Group,” in pre-trial detention.

This decision was made by Judge Lela Kalichenko, thereby granting the motion of the prosecution side.

The case has also moved to the stage of substantive hearing.

For information: Giorgi Udzilauri was detained on May 5. He has been charged under Article 314, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (espionage), which provides for imprisonment of up to 12 years.

According to information released by the Prosecutor’s Office, as a result of the investigation conducted by the Counterintelligence Department of the State Security Service, it was established that a public servant employed in a high position in one of the state agencies, Giorgi Udzilauri, for the purpose of receiving material benefit and to the detriment of Georgia’s interests, acting on the instructions of a foreign country’s intelligence service, systematically collected and transmitted various types and categories of information to them.
