“The 67th round of the Geneva International Discussions was held on June 30 - July 1, 2026, where the Georgian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia. During the negotiations, the Georgian delegation expressed deep concern over the so-called ‘agreement’ signed on May 9, 2026, between Russia and the occupation regime in Tskhinvali on deepening allied cooperation, and its hasty implementation. It was noted that such types of so-called ‘agreements’ are legally void, grossly violate international legal norms, and hinder constructive dialogue.
The Georgian delegation placed the main emphasis on the key issues of the agenda of the Geneva International Discussions, such as the need for the full implementation by Russia of its international obligations under the August 12, 2008, Ceasefire Agreement concluded with the mediation of the European Union, and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes from the occupied territories.
The Georgian side sharply raised the issue of the difficult situation in terms of security, humanitarian, and human rights issues in the occupied regions and the destructive actions of the Russian occupation regimes.
Emphasis was placed on the importance of restoring the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali without any preconditions and holding the mentioned mechanism regularly in Gali and Ergneti in accordance with the fundamental principles.
The representatives of Russia and its occupation regimes, following their usual practice, left the negotiation table on one of the most important issues on the agenda, which concerned the return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes from the occupied territories.
The Geneva International Discussions were established on the basis of the August 12, 2008, Ceasefire Agreement concluded with the mediation of the European Union, and its main issues for discussion are the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement, the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes, as well as the security and humanitarian problems created as a result of the Russian occupation.
The next, 68th round of the Geneva International Discussions will be held on November 10-11, 2026,” the information states.
