Berdia Sichinava on the Chorchana case: It is one link in a large chain; in fact, the Georgian side provides grounds and evidence to the Tskhinvali occupation regime that building a police checkpoint on Georgia’s own territory is a crime

[The Chorchana checkpoint case] is one link in a large chain, when, in fact, the Georgian side provides grounds and evidence to the Tskhinvali occupation regime that building a police checkpoint on Georgia’s own territory is a crime, and that this is a specific act directed against someone’s security, - this was stated by Berdia Sichinava, Executive Secretary of “Gakharia For Georgia” and lawyer of Giorgi Gakharia, to journalists at the City Court, where the hearing of the case on the so-called Chorchana episode is scheduled.

According to Sichinava, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office is harming Georgia’s national interests in this case.

“The substantive hearing continues in the Chorchana case, with the examination of the prosecution’s evidence. Accordingly, today the prosecution side will present witnesses. We do not know who they will be. Presumably, they may be local residents. In fact, in this case, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office is harming Georgia’s national interests by prosecuting the former Minister of Internal Affairs with the narratives and evidence of the Tskhinvali occupation regime, accusing him of building a police checkpoint on our controlled territory along the occupation line. You see what annexation processes are taking place in the Tskhinvali region. The actual appropriation of our ancestral Georgian land is happening against the background of the criminal silence of the ‘Georgian Dream’ government. Yesterday, the Geneva negotiations format was held, the next round, where we still do not know about the categorical position of the Georgian side. Including what categorical statements or international legal mechanisms the Georgian side planned or demanded in order to stop the annexation processes in this country. This is one link in one large chain, when, in fact, the Georgian side provides grounds and evidence to the Tskhinvali occupation regime that building a police checkpoint on Georgia’s own territory is a crime, and that this is a specific act directed against someone’s security. Everyone will have to take legal and political responsibility for this,” Berdia Sichinava stated.
