The Prosecutor's Office has charged Giorgi Malania in a case separated from the criminal proceedings of Giga Avaliani, for aiding and abetting the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm by a group.
According to the agency's press service, the Prosecutor's Office will petition the court within the legally prescribed timeframe to apply pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint against the accused.
"Giorgi Malania has been charged under Article 25 and Article 117, Part 3, Subparagraph 'l' of the Criminal Code of Georgia (aiding and abetting the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm by a group), which carries a penalty of up to 13 years in prison.
"An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office, establishes that in September 2025, Alexandre Gabashvili, along with Giorgi Rikadze and Demetre Chikovani, planned a group attack on Giga Avaliani.
To this end, they identified Giga Avaliani, checked his social media profile, and downloaded a photo to recognize and memorize his appearance.
With the help of Giorgi Malania, who was Giga Avaliani’s student, they determined his work and home addresses and studied his work schedule and the routes he took from work to home. They selected a location to carry out their intent and began surveillance.
On the evening of September 29, 2025, Alexandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani arrived at a training center located in the Zghvis Ubani (Sea District) of Tbilisi with the intent of retaliation. They set up an ambush and had all the conditions in place to carry out the attack; however, they were unable to execute their intent that day due to reasons beyond their control.
On October 1, 2025, according to the plan developed by Alexandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani, Alexandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze launched a group attack on Giga Avaliani. He sustained grievous bodily harm, which resulted in his death at a medical facility on October 24, 2025.
Law enforcement officers arrested the accused on July 1. He was charged under Article 25 and Article 117, Part 3, Subparagraph 'l' of the Criminal Code of Georgia (aiding and abetting the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm by a group), which carries a penalty of up to 13 years in prison.
The Prosecutor's Office will petition the court to apply pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint against the accused within the legally prescribed timeframe.
We remind the public that Alexandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, and Demetre Chikovani have been convicted for committing the aforementioned crimes.
