Irakli Kirtskhalia: We have no problem attending the NATO summit and why we are not represented, ask the organizers; as for going to condolences in the neighborhood, we will continue to do so

Wherever we are invited and we consider it necessary to go, when we are invited, of course, we will be represented everywhere with dignity, just as we are represented with dignity everywhere. When we are not invited somewhere, we think very little about this topic, - this is how the leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kirtskhalia, responded to journalists’ questions regarding the NATO summit planned in Ankara, to which Georgia is not invited.

In addition, in this context he also spoke about the attendance of Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili at the funeral ceremony of Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and, to the question “Does Georgia have time to go to Iran and has no problem,” he answered that “it will not have any.”

According to him, if the question is why Georgia is not invited to the NATO summit, journalists should address this question to the organizers.

“We have no problem attending the summit and why we are not represented, ask the organizers. As for going to condolences in our neighborhood, in the region, or attending various events, this is the region and we will continue to do so. This is our policy, the pragmatic policy, the peace policy that the ‘Georgian Dream’ follows at the request of our society. In principle, a normal citizen should not have a question about this when a representative of the state goes to the neighborhood to express condolences. We live and function by these principles. Leaving politics aside, these are principles for every Georgian and in us, that in the neighborhood there is always mutual respect and the interdependence that is built on respect and parity foundations.

As for the NATO summit planned in Ankara, wherever we are invited and we consider it necessary to go when invited, of course, we will be represented everywhere with dignity, just as we are represented with dignity everywhere. When we are not invited somewhere, we think very little about this topic.

It is important that there is peace in our country. The responsibility of our team, the ‘Georgian Dream’ team, is one - to maintain the continuous peace period in our country that has existed since 2012,” Kirtskhalia stated.

For information, the NATO summit will be held on July 7-8 in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Leaders of the alliance’s 32 member countries and representatives of partner states will attend the meeting.
