Mikheil Kavelashvili on Joe Wilson: Our parliamentary delegation gave an appropriate response; we should pay as little attention as possible to the assessments of individuals like him

Mikheil Kavelashvili commented on the Georgian delegation's decision to leave the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly plenary session in protest.

Speaking to journalists, Kavelashvili said the Georgian parliamentary delegation had responded appropriately to the remarks made by Joe Wilson and argued that little attention should be paid to such statements.

"Our parliamentary delegation gave him an appropriate response. On a daily basis, our members of parliament make accurate observations and objective assessments of his statements. To me, the actions of a single congressman, who is an interested party, are completely obvious, and what stands behind him is also easy for any citizen to see. Therefore, we should pay as little attention as possible to the assessments of individuals like him," Kavelashvili said.

For reference, the Georgian delegation refused to participate in the vote on the Hague Declaration during the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly plenary session as a sign of protest.

Before the vote, Nikoloz Samkharadze announced on behalf of the delegation that it would boycott the vote because, in its view, parts of the revised declaration deliberately distort Georgia's political reality, misrepresent facts, ignore violent attacks on state institutions, and arbitrarily interpret the findings of election observation missions and the Moscow Mechanism report, thereby harming Georgia's national interests. He said the delegation would therefore abstain from the voting process in protest.
