Vika Philphani: Resolutions are not adopted against us, they are adopted to protect Georgia’s democracy - Whoever is incompetent and deliberately destroys democracy, of course, is bothered by the resolutions

These resolutions are not adopted against us; these resolutions are adopted to protect Georgia’s democracy — the resolution concerns the fact that there is a democratic regression in Georgia, that human rights are being violated, that we cannot fulfill international obligations undertaken, that the government cannot fulfill obligations undertaken before the citizens of Georgia, and if someone does not agree with these resolutions, they probably have a problem with Georgia’s democracy and territorial integrity, — this was stated by one of the deputies of the party “Gakharia – For Georgia,” Vika Philphani.

According to her, there are recommendations on what Georgia should do to correct the situation and become a worthy representative of the international community again, but instead, the government is worsening the situation.

“In the resolution adopted yesterday, the main issues concerned Georgia’s territorial integrity, the country’s sovereignty, and human rights. Which part was unfair toward the government?

These resolutions serve the purpose that the Georgian side fulfills the obligations undertaken before both the international community and the citizens of Georgia. Therefore, whoever is incompetent and deliberately destroys Georgia’s sovereignty and democracy is, of course, bothered by these resolutions, because these people, high-ranking officials of the ‘Georgian Dream,’ are being told that violence against people is not allowed, sending them to prison without evidence, and stealing money from the budget. That is why it bothers them, because they want to freely steal money, use violence against citizens, and violate the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Until 2021 we were among the leaders, there were no claims, the government, organizations, and the country were fulfilling obligations, and this was visible in the country, people were living better, and the country’s annual progress was noticeable, but this is not the case now. Today, having to listen to painful resolutions is the merit of the Georgian government.

There are recommendations on what Georgia should do to correct the situation and become a worthy representative of the international community again. But instead, the government is worsening the situation, adopting laws that fundamentally violate freedom of expression, arresting people for standing on the sidewalk, physically attacking citizens and opponents, as we saw in parliament two weeks ago. What should surprise us — it is a criminal group. It’s a good thing the soul of this country is still holding up.

The content of the resolution cannot change because the situation in the country is not changing,” Vika Philphani stated.

For information, the Georgian delegation, as a sign of protest, refused to participate in the vote on the “Hague Declaration” at the plenary session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The relevant statement was made by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze, before the vote. The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons, responded to Nikoloz Samkharadze’s remark and stated that leaving empty seats in parliament is always the worst option, because democracy is, first of all, a joint effort to resolve conflict.

It is noteworthy that a few minutes after the Georgian delegation left the session, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted the “Hague Declaration,” which includes a resolution on Georgia. The main sponsor of the resolution “Protecting the Integrity of Elections and Fundamental Freedoms in Georgia” is American Congressman Joe Wilson.
