Kakheti Governor: The damage caused by the disaster in Telavi is quite extensive - most importantly, residents are not in danger

"The damage caused by the disaster is quite extensive. The main damage has been to road infrastructure, and initial cleanup works have already begun," Platon Kalmakhelidze, the State Representative (Governor) of Kakheti, told journalists in Telavi.

According to him, due to safety concerns for residents, natural gas and electricity supplies to the municipality are being provided with restrictions, with services being restored periodically throughout the day.

"The damage caused by the disaster is quite extensive. Most importantly, residents are not in danger. Due to concerns for public safety, natural gas and electricity supplies to the municipality are being provided with restrictions, and they will be restored periodically throughout the day.

The main damage has been to road infrastructure, and initial cleanup works have already started. The full extent of the damage caused by the disaster will be assessed on site, after which comprehensive restoration works will begin.

As for coordination, a coordination council has been convened. All ministries and agencies are mobilized to eliminate the damage caused by the disaster in Telavi Municipality as quickly as possible," Kalmakhelidze said.

For reference, heavy rainfall in Telavi caused the Telavi Stream to overflow, flooding parts of Kavkasioni Street and Alazani Avenue. The heavy rain caused the stream to breach its banks, with water flowing through the streets.

The flooding affected the ground floors of apartment buildings, commercial spaces, pharmacies, and shops. Vehicles and power transmission lines were also damaged.
