Kakha Kaladze: It is disappointing when an organization you invite to observe elections adopts this kind of resolution - what credibility can the OSCE have after this, and how could any normal country invite it to monitor its elections?

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's resolution has no value, but it is disappointing when an organization entrusted with observing elections adopts a resolution filled with falsehoods and lies, Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of Georgian Dream and Mayor of Tbilisi, told journalists.

According to Kaladze, the OSCE resolution is based on falsehoods and defamation.

He also argued that "there are no such things as European standards" and that "those who hold power make all the decisions."

"Let us not have the illusion that strong political statements or adopted resolutions are based on arguments. No, my friends, that is not how it works. Of course, everything will be built on lies, falsehoods, and defamation.

It is simply disappointing when an international organization such as the OSCE—one that we entrusted with observing our elections—adopts this kind of resolution. We had become accustomed to this type of resolution from Members of the European Parliament, resolutions that have no value whatsoever.

If you look at the content of the OSCE resolution, everyone will understand that it is entirely based on falsehoods and defamation. It has no value. What is disappointing is that an organization invited to assess elections adopts a resolution filled with lies and falsehoods.

What credibility can the OSCE have after this? How could any normal, developed country invite such an organization to observe its elections?

There are no European standards. Those who have power make decisions on everything, no matter how absurd they may be or how contradictory they are. If they want to, they adopt this kind of decision. Let us not talk about democracy," Kaladze said.

For reference, on 8 July, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopted The Hague Declaration, which includes a resolution on Georgia.

The resolution, titled "Safeguarding Electoral Integrity and Fundamental Freedoms in Georgia," was chiefly sponsored by U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson. It calls on the Georgian authorities to release all Georgian political prisoners identified by national and international human rights organizations and to repeal all legislation that restricts fundamental freedoms and is incompatible with Georgia's human rights obligations.
