“Cooperation and relations with Georgia will also be a significant asset for them [the United States], and this has been taking shape in certain forms recently. Maka Bochorishvili’s invitation to this forum is one of the serious indications that cooperation with Georgia is of particular importance,” First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Gia Volski told journalists, commenting on Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili’s participation in a ministerial meeting in Washington on the “resurgence of political terrorism.”
According to him, many other countries, in addition to the United States, will be represented at the forum, and discussions on cooperation with their representatives will also be part of Maka Bochorishvili’s agenda.
“The United States acts based on its own interests. Cooperation and relations with Georgia will also be a significant asset for them, and this has been taking shape in certain forms recently. Certain areas have already emerged, such as security and discussions related to foreign policy. Georgia, together with the other countries of the South Caucasus, has today become a key geographical location through which alternative routes must pass. These routes already exist, although their scale should be much greater. This, of course, is one of the serious components to be discussed in bilateral relations.
There have been other issues as well, including combating international crime — a joint statement on this topic was recently issued. We remember the intensive period of cooperation between the American and Georgian armed forces. All of this gives us grounds to believe that these relations will develop positively.
This is not being done to spite anyone or as a form of showing off, saying that we are friends with the United States and are developing common positions. It is being done because it is in our interests and significantly determines our stability. The United States is a country that has a significant influence on processes taking place around the world.
Of course, Maka Bochorishvili’s invitation to this forum is one of the serious indications that cooperation with Georgia is of particular importance. This is important not only for the United States, but many other countries will also be represented at the forum, and discussions on cooperation with their representatives will also be on Maka Bochorishvili’s agenda,” Gia Volski said.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili will participate in a ministerial meeting in Washington at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Bochorishvili, at the invitation of United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will participate in the ministerial meeting on the ‘resurgence of political terrorism’ in Washington,” the ministry said.
