A suspect detained in connection with the assault on Onise Okriashvili has been charged - Prosecutor’s Office seeks GEL 5,000 bail with detention as a security measure
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged the person detained in connection with the assault committed against Onise Okriashvili.
According to a statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office, the agency will ask the court to impose bail of GEL 5,000 as a preventive measure, secured by detention.
“An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that in the late hours of July 22, 2026, in Tbilisi, the accused physically assaulted Onise Okriashvili over the alleged insult of Georgian writer Nodar Dumbadze. The accused struck the victim several times in the head and various parts of the body, causing him physical pain.
“Law enforcement officers detained the accused several hours after the incident. He was charged under Article 126, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violence).
“Within the timeframe established by law, the Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court requesting bail in the amount of GEL 5,000, secured by detention as a preventive measure,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.
