Nika Cherkezishvili: The cost of 1 set of school uniform will be 95 lari; parents will have to buy at least 2 sets, which means an additional expense of 200 lari, and for large families the financial burden will be even heavier

The cost of 1 set of school uniform will be 95 lari. In reality, 1 set is not enough for the school year, and the majority of parents will have to buy at least 2 sets, which means an additional expense of approximately 200 lari per child. For large families, this financial burden will be even heavier, - this was stated by Nika Cherkezishvili, a member of “Lelo - Strong Georgia,” at a briefing related to school uniforms.

According to him, the “Georgian Dream” government continues experiments and populist campaigns in a system that it does not use itself.

“They are conducting experiments not on their own children, but on other people’s children. Another confirmation of this is the mandatory introduction of school uniforms in public schools. A large part of the children of high-ranking officials of ‘Georgian Dream’ study in private schools, which is why the government’s explanation that the mandatory introduction of uniforms is being done in order to protect the principles of equality is unconvincing. When the decision-maker himself is not subject to the rules that he is trying to impose on others, talk about equality is of a formal nature. In a country where dozens of public schools are still in an emergency condition or destroyed, thousands of students have to walk every day to schools located kilometers away from their homes, and a significant part of children do not eat at all during the school day, the mandatory introduction of school uniforms cannot be the main challenge of the education system,” - Cherkezishvili noted.

He also explained that “Georgia needs not a reform of uniforms, but a deep transformation of the education system, improvement of the quality of teaching, safe, modern schools, and a free meal program.”

We remind you that the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia has determined the cost of school uniforms for students of the primary level of public schools.

The cost of a school jacket has been set at 45 lari, while the cost of school trousers and a school skirt has been set at 25 lari.
