Maka Botchorishvili - Nauru's decision is an important victory, we have been constantly working with various partners to ensure that the decision to recognize Abkhazia and Tskhinvali was withdrawn - I would like to congratulate all diplomats!

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Botchorishvili, Nauru's decision to sever diplomatic relations with the so-called republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is a very important victory.

According to her, the Foreign Ministry will continue to work to ensure that the decisions that were taken illegally are withdrawn.

“Nauru’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with the so-called independent republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is a very important victory for Georgia’s non-recognition policy and the diplomatic efforts that the Foreign Ministry is making to protect the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty in the international arena.

When Nauru made the decision to establish diplomatic relations, it was a gross violation of international law and norms. Of course, we have been working with various partners to have this decision reversed. The work carried out recently, which resulted in today’s decision, is particularly noteworthy.

First of all, I would like to congratulate all diplomats who are sparing no effort in working to protect Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the international arena, and, of course, I wish our country success in defending Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in the steps taken to protect the integrity of the country.

This is a difficult process, not an easy one. The anniversary of the 2008 war is approaching. The result of this war was the recognition of the independence of the Abkhazian and Ossetian regions and, unfortunately, the international consequences that followed this recognition on the international stage by Russia.

We will continue to work to ensure that the decisions that were made illegally are withdrawn and that we also take the steps necessary to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country," Bochorishvili said.

For information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Nauru has severed diplomatic relations with Abkhazia and the so-called South Ossetia. According to the ministry, Georgia expresses its readiness to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nauru and promote the intensification of bilateral cooperation based on common interests.
