According to the National Bank, several cases have recently been recorded in which unknown persons contact citizens via the mobile application WhatsApp and other means of communication and introduce themselves as representatives of the National Bank of Georgia.

According to the same source, they also illegally use the logo of the National Bank.

“According to the information available to us, these persons offer citizens assistance in supposedly repaying existing loan obligations to the NBG and in other similar financial operations. In one case, a citizen was told that possible unauthorized access to his personal banking data and an attempt to activate a loan had been recorded, and to verify this he was asked to enter the relevant remote channel - internet and/or mobile banking - by providing identifiers. Within the framework of the above-mentioned communications, consumers are also asked to provide the data required for authorization in internet and/or mobile banking, including username, password, as well as other personal and financial information. Please take into account that if the said data is provided, fraudsters may gain access to your bank accounts, which creates the risk of unauthorized operations being carried out and of financial loss/damage being inflicted on the consumer. The National Bank of Georgia calls on citizens to exercise particular attention and caution. Do not disclose your personal and financial information, including the username and password required for authorization in the bank’s remote channels; also, do not enter the said information on suspicious links provided by unknown persons and do not attempt to carry out banking/card operations. In the event of such a situation being recorded, contact the relevant law enforcement agencies. We remind you that the National Bank of Georgia, for the purpose of protecting the rights of consumers of the financial sector, periodically disseminates warning or educational information related to frequently used schemes of financial fraud.
