The “United National Movement” is holding a meeting of the Political Council. The acting chairperson of the party, Tina Bokuchava, is not attending the meeting of the Political Council.
At today’s meeting of the Political Council, the party’s leaders and members will discuss issues related to the congress of the “National Movement,” and the date of the congress will also be determined.
One of the leaders of the “National Movement,” Ana Tsitlidze, explained what issues the party’s Political Council is discussing at today’s meeting.
“The issues defined by the agenda are as follows: the Political Council is to discuss the upcoming congress, when this congress will be held. Also, it is to discuss the rules for holding the congress and determine the delegates who will be represented at the congress and will have the authority to participate in the votes.
The gathering of the Political Council is the first stage. According to our statute, the Political Council is the main body that is to determine and establish the date of the congress, the procedure for convening the congress, and also who the delegates will be and what their number will be. Once the Political Council establishes this, the congress will then be scheduled. The congress must then elect a temporary governing body, which will have the corresponding authority defined. The main function of the temporary governing body will be that during this transitional period of 6 months, until the party has a chairperson, it prepares the party for the elections. Also, it prepares and works together with the Reform Council, which is an external body of the party, but it has also been announced that there will be a Reform Council under the leadership of Nanuka Zhorzholiani. The party must prepare for fundamental reforms and, at the end of 6 months, schedule the elections for the party chairperson, where candidates will have the opportunity to register and participate,” Tsitlidze stated.
She also explained why the acting chairperson of the party, Tina Bokuchava, is not attending today’s meeting of the Political Council.
According to her information, Bokuchava is not in the capital.
“I know that she is not physically in Tbilisi. This is my information,” Tsitlidze stated.
As for the upcoming congress, at the congress the “United National Movement” will elect a new chairperson.
The 2-year term of office of the party’s former chairperson Tina Bokuchava, as defined by the party’s statute, expired on July 8 of the current year.
