According to one of the leaders of the “National Movement,” Giorgi Baramidze, the prevailing opinion in the party is that they should have not one chairperson, but a group of people who will politically perform the functions of the chairperson.
According to him, in order to achieve political independence and ensure the sustainability of the party, the congress will establish a monthly membership fee.
“At this stage, at the transitional stage, the main opinion in the party is that instead of one chairperson, there should be a group of people who will politically perform the functions of the chairperson. What is necessary and required by legislation - that there be a person who signs something - such a person will necessarily exist, but that will be a formality. This issue is removed at this moment, and for me it is very comfortable and good that this intrigue about who will be the chairperson does not exist; for us the position is not the main thing. Especially since we want the party to be reformed, and at this stage of reforming the party we have two main tasks that we must implement: for the party to become much more popular, and second, for it to become financially independent.
Greater popularity means that our real members, through our telephone application which we will create and which will be appropriately protected, will take part in the resolution of all important issues of the party, in voting. We will introduce membership fees - for financial provision, for financial independence, our real members, as the congress will establish, will contribute to the party a monthly membership fee of that amount which will ensure the sustainability of our party, financial independence and political independence, and we will not be dependent on anyone either financially or in any other respect,” Baramidze stated.
For information, the “United National Movement” is holding a meeting of the Political Council. At today’s meeting of the Political Council, the party’s leaders and members will discuss issues related to the congress of the “National Movement,” and the date of the congress will also be determined. The acting chairperson of the party, Tina Bokuchava, is not attending the meeting of the Political Council.
