The U.S. State Department is making the requirements of the visa deposit program permanent, Reuters reports based on the U.S. Federal Register.

According to the U.S. Federal Register, the requirements apply to B1 and B2 visas, which are issued for business and tourist travel.

In the notice published by the Federal Register it is stated that the ongoing assessment over the past one year of the visa deposit program, which was put into effect in 2025, has provided the agency with sufficient data to conclude that the program effectively ensures compliance with visa conditions and that it should become permanent.

Within the framework of the pilot program, the amount of the deposit was 5,000, 10,000 or 15,000 dollars; however, under the final regulation of the program the 5,000-dollar deposit is abolished and the maximum amount of the deposit is set at 20,000 dollars.

The final regulation of the U.S. visa deposit program will enter into force on August 3.
