According to Giorgi Butikashvili, one of the members of the “Opposition Alliance,” any party should unite around the initiative of free and fair elections.

According to him, the Alliance supports this and they are working to unite around this initiative all those parties that demand free and fair elections.

According to Giorgi Butikashvili, the elections held by “Georgian Dream” are in reality a special operation. As he noted, he is convinced that neither the party “Gakharia for Georgia” nor “Lelo” want to take part in this “Russian special operation.”

“In this country the main task of a political party is to participate in elections; otherwise parties are not founded and a party has no other task except to participate in elections and gain electoral support. But the elections appointed or announced by ‘Georgian Dream,’ under the rules that they have established, cannot be called elections. This is a so-called special operation that only strengthens ‘Georgian Dream’ and creates a façade of democracy. Elections are also held in Russia, but there elections are not really held. ‘Georgian Dream’ has made elections in Georgia resemble exactly the same model, especially against the background of the latest changes. Therefore, any party that says it is fighting for free and fair elections is important. That is why this initiative, as the Alliance had put forward with its six points and to which ‘First Georgia’ responded, is important, because the newly created parties should also share the principles that are shared by the number of parties in the Alliance. I am convinced that neither ‘Lelo’ nor Gakharia want to participate in a Russian special operation. I am also convinced that both ‘Lelo’ and Gakharia have the desire for free and fair elections to be held in this country. Therefore, any party should unite around this initiative. We support this and, of course, we are working in this direction to unite as many parties as possible in one basket — those who demand free and fair elections,” Giorgi Butikashvili stated.
