Tina may have some resentment, because at the congress, we will no longer elect a chairman in the form in which it is now, nor the secretary general. We want to have a kind of governing council that will perform these functions, - Giorgi Baramidze, the political secretary of the United National Movement, told journalists.

According to him, the congress of the National Movement will be held on August 5, where decisions will be made on important reforms.

“These are the reforms that the National Movement and the political council have been preparing for a long time, at the initiative of President Saakashvili and based on his vision. Many months ago, the political council approved a fundamental reform of governance, the two main, important ideas. First, the party will become much more popular, democratic, transparent, and thus ensure much more fairness in the decision-making process within the party. Second, an important innovation - we are introducing a party membership fees. Party members will pay the party membership fee in the form of donations and help the party to be the most independent organization, just like it is all over the world. Financial independence means all kinds of independence, responsibility and accountability directly to our voters, and not to a single wealthy donor.

The National Movement will have a secure application. The application serves to allow an ordinary member of the party, who will pay the membership fee every month as a donation, to participate in the political life of the party, to participate in the decision-making process that is important for the party, for example, such issues as whether to enter parliament or not. When this system is implemented, it will not be decided solely by the party's elected leaders. Each member will directly participate in the party’s decision-making process,” Baramidze said, noting that this will be one of the issues that will be discussed at the congress on August 5.

He also spoke about the statement made by the acting chairwoman of the party, Tina Bokuchava, regarding the meeting held last week, calling it not authorized.

“I was very surprised by Tina’s statement because there was nothing illegitimate at this session. If there was no quorum, the session would not have been held. There were a lot of people there, and accordingly, everyone was present. Each member, including, naturally, the chairperson, if interested, will receive the minutes, when these minutes will be final with their signatures. Everyone will have the opportunity, I mean our members, to see who was present. Many people came from different regions. As you know, each chairman of our regional organization is a member of the political council, and so many people came from Western Georgia, where Tina is currently. I cannot tell you why she made these statements," Baramidze said.
