Coalition for Change calls indictment of members of Nika Melia's entourage - Tsotne Mirtskhulava and Gabriel Kobaidze - over an incident that occurred during the 2024 election campaign of Nika Melia as "absurd"

The Coalition for Change assesses the indictment of "Akhali" member Tsotne Mirtskhulava and the party co-chairman's security guard Gabriel Kobaidze over an incident that occurred during the 2024 election campaign of Nika Melia as absurd.

According to the coalition, bringing forward the case after years serves to intimidate and silence critical people, which will not work.

"Today, the so-called Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, completely illegally, filed charges under Article 162 of the Criminal Code against a member of the "Akhali" party, Tsotne Mirtskhulava and the party security guard member, Gabriel Kobaidze. We would like to remind the public that on August 11, 2024, during the pre-election campaign in Samtredia, Nika Melia was attacked live on air by a so-called Titushka sent by the Georgian Dream.

The absurdity of the case is also emphasized by the fact that the crime provided for in Article 126 of the Criminal Code implies violence during a pre-election event, which was carried out by the perpetrator sent by the Georgian Dream.

Bringing up the case after years serves to intimidate and silence critical people, which, in fact, does not work.

We will win with unity and strength!", reads the statement.

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged three individuals with violence committed during an election campaign event in Samtredia on August 11, 2024.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on August 11, 2024, during the opening of the Samtredia regional office of the political party "Akhali", Sulkhan-Saba Nikoleishvili hit Nikanor Melia in the head, as a result of which the latter suffered physical pain. During the incident, Nikanor Melia's companions - Gabriel Kobaidze and Tsotne Mirtskhulava - assaulted Sulkhan-Saba Nikoleishvili in response, as a result of which the latter suffered pain and received minor injuries.
