Paata Kunchulia wrote about his resignation on social media. As Kunchulia writes, he did not receive proper support from officials.

“I would like to inform the public that I have made a decision to resign from the position of Mayor of Ozurgeti.

All my steps were based on the interests of Ozurgeti residents and their needs. In less than a year, we have managed to implement an unprecedented number of projects tailored to the needs of the community in Ozurgeti. Today, Ozurgeti is in the top three municipalities in Georgia in terms of budget utilization and project implementation. I am proud of the results we have achieved in this short period of time. I am glad that I have made my own contribution to strengthening our municipality.

Against this background, it is not new to the public that opposition media outlets have declared a hunt for success and progress.

In addition, despite the fact that local government representatives, including the State Attorney and the Ozurgeti City Council Chairman have repeatedly, including publicly, called on specific local officials to unite, unfortunately, I have not felt proper support in the wake of artificially created problems, and I am not going to hide the fact that I really have some heartbreak in this regard, which played a certain role in the process of making this decision. However, this was not the main reason why I made this decision, I will only add that it turned out to be very difficult to be in politics…

Therefore, I call on everyone to properly appreciate those people who have been in politics for years, withstand the most severe external and internal attacks and stand firmly on the guard of their homeland.

A huge thank you to each of my employees - people who have stood by me on this path, with your dedication and support, we live in a better and stronger Ozurgeti today.
