Grigol Gegelia: Poland’s decision is confirmation of a demographic catastrophe - this is an echo of the very large and ominous background that we have received in Georgia under the hostile, anti-Georgian policy of “Georgian Dream”

According to the statement of one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” Grigol Gegelia, the tightening by Poland of the rules for entry into the country for Georgian citizens arriving for work is “confirmation of the demographic catastrophe into which ‘Georgian Dream’ has plunged the state and the people.”

According to Gegelia, Georgians are massively flowing out of their homeland, they have to take up illegal employment, the level of crime is very high, which “expresses the corruption existing inside the country, the lack of prospects and the universal misery.”

“Poland is, of course, our dear friend and partner country. The fact that it has to take this type of measures is a direct echo of the very large and ominous background that we have received in the country under the hostile, anti-Georgian policy of ‘Georgian Dream,’” Grigol Gegelia states.

Poland has tightened the rules for entry into the country for citizens arriving for work from Georgia, as well as from Colombia and Venezuela.

According to media information, the regulation signed by Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on 10 August entered into force on Saturday and applies specifically to persons who have entered Poland for the purpose of employment.

The Polish government explains that citizens of the three mentioned countries systematically use the visa-free regime for employment without meeting the legal requirements. According to official persons, among the reasons for introducing the new regulations are illegal employment and remaining in the country, the growth of the shadow economy, the exploitation of employees and human trafficking. They also noted that these three countries are considered high-migration-risk countries.
