We absolutely do not forgive corruption to anyone - where signs of it emerge and where the court establishes guilt for it, any person will be punished in the strictest form of the law, - this was stated by “Georgian Dream” deputy Levan Machavariani in response to a question asked in connection with the new charge against the former Prime Minister and one of the leaders of “Georgian Dream,” Irakli Garibashvili.

According to Machavariani, Garibashvili tried to politicise the case, which, in his assessment, “truly does not suit him.”

“It is logical that we should connect Irakli Garibashvili’s letter with this charge. It is logical to conclude that he was trying to artificially politicise the topic, knowing about the concrete charge against him.

Until the investigation is completed and the court issues a verdict, I cannot say whether he has committed a crime or not, however logic dictates to us that he wanted to insure himself against everything.

It is very bad that he started some kind of politicisation by these methods, which I cannot even call a struggle and which truly does not suit him.

We have proven by deeds what kind of approach we have in connection with corruption. For us it does not matter what kind of official a person is - whether he is a high or not high official, whether he is our current minister or a former minister of the team. We have an absolutely identical approach toward everyone,” Levan Machavariani stated.

The Prosecutor’s Office has brought a new charge against former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili concerning the taking of a particularly large amount of a bribe by a group acting by prior agreement. For the said crime the law provides for a penalty of deprivation of liberty from 11 to 15 years.
