“Daur Buava used to receive many threats because of his views, and the possibility of violence, as well as its cause and circumstances, must be properly ruled out. It is essential that the investigation promptly provide the public with information about what happened and examine the cause of death in detail,” Tamta Mikeladze, Director of the Social Justice Center, wrote in response to the death of Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava.
Tamta Mikeladze expressed her condolences over the incident.
“Today we learned that Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava was found dead in Tbilisi. This is very difficult news, and I am deeply saddened. I knew Daur, and he had a great desire and energy to start a new life.
“It is essential that the investigation promptly provide the public with information about what happened and examine the cause of death in detail. As far as I know, Daur used to receive many threats because of his views, and possible violence, as well as its cause and circumstances, must be properly ruled out.
“I extend my condolences to his family members and friends,” Mikeladze wrote.
For reference, Abkhaz blogger Daur Buava was found dead in his apartment in Tbilisi. The cause of death is currently unknown, although he is believed to have been dead for several days. According to unofficial reports, there was a “terrible smell” in the building, prompting neighbors to call a rescue team. Rescuers found the Abkhaz blogger dead upon entering the apartment.
An investigation is underway under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which concerns bringing a person to suicide.
