“I’ll be honest, I find it hard to believe that Irakli Garibashvili had no facts whatsoever and used a person’s tragic death for political purposes,” Giorgi Sharashidze, a member of the “For Georgia” party, told journalists, commenting on the questioning of several individuals based on statements made by the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the case of Lazare Jorbenadze.

According to Sharashidze, Irakli Garibashvili is thinking about saving his own skin and future.

“If, according to the ruling team, there were dirty political attempts, then why are they themselves using this issue? — To be honest, I find it hard to believe that Irakli Garibashvili had no facts whatsoever and used a person’s tragic death for political purposes. If that was the case, then there is nothing more to comment on. I find it difficult to believe this, but based on what is emerging so far, that appears to be the case, because if you have no information and cannot cooperate with the investigation, then why would you make such a serious accusation publicly?

These are questions Garibashvili has to answer. Unfortunately, Garibashvili is thinking about saving his own skin and future. Whether he is handling this correctly or making mistakes is up to him, and it will become clear. Unfortunately, the ‘Georgian Dream’ is making good use of all this. Today, there are numerous challenges, starting with the occupation and extending to the economy, yet the first question being asked is about this issue,” Sharashidze said.

For reference, former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili published another letter from prison in which he asks, “What was the real cause of human rights defender Lazare Jorbenadze’s death?” He also says that society “still has unanswered questions regarding the cases of suicide involving several individuals that took place during the rule of Kobakhidze and Mdinaradze.”

On September 3, the Prosecutor’s Office released a statement confirming that Lazare Jorbenadze had died by suicide. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, despite this, based on public statements made by convicted Irakli Garibashvili and others, several individuals will be questioned as part of an investigation being conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.

Those to be questioned include Nika Gvaramia, Irma Inashvili, Nanuka Zhorzholiani, Khatia Dekanoidze, Tazo Datunashvili, Gia Khukhashvili, Giorgi Liluashvili, Zaza Davitaia, Ermile Nemsadze, and Giorgi Gigauri.

Some of them were already questioned by the investigative authorities yesterday. Today, Tazo Datunashvili, one of the leaders of “Lelo – Strong Georgia,” and Khatia Dekanoidze, one of the leaders of the “United National Movement,” will be questioned at the Tbilisi City Court in the presence of a magistrate judge.
