The occupation regime is shamelessly trying to claim the territory of Chorchana as its own land, while Georgian Dream responds to all this with silence - this silence raises serious doubts and concerns about the possible readiness of the authorities to commit an unprecedented act of betrayal and cede Georgian lands to the occupation regime - this is stated in the statement released by Gakharia for Georgia, with which they respond to the 134th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).
As stated in the statement, if the Georgian Dream government abolishes the Chorchana police checkpoint, it will be a betrayal of the homeland.
“Yesterday, at the 134th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) held in Ergneti, the Tskhinvali occupation regime once again aggressively demanded the abolition of the Georgian police checkpoint in the village of Chorchana and, accordingly, the transfer of the aforementioned Georgian territories to the occupation forces. The occupation regime is shamelessly trying to claim the Chorchana territory as its own land, while the Georgian Dream responds to all this with silence and hiding information from the public both about the Tskhinvali regime’s demands and its own response. Instead of the government defending national interests, the Georgian Dream is prosecuting the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia for placing a Georgian police checkpoint in Chorchana and protecting Georgian land from the creeping occupation.
The Georgian Dream’s continued silence regarding Chorchana raises serious suspicions and concerns about the government’s possible readiness to commit an unprecedented act of treason and cede Georgian lands to the occupying regime.
If the Georgian Dream government abolishes the Chorchana police checkpoint, it would be treason, which is a criminal offense, and each person involved in this act will be held accountable before the law and history. We call on the government to immediately inform the Georgian people about its intentions regarding Chorchana and we warn the Georgian Dream not to take any steps that would allow the ceding of Georgian territories to the occupying forces," reads the statement.
