Unfortunately, we see that European bureaucrats very often are inclined toward self-isolation and call on others to act the same way. Such calls are truly unacceptable, - this is how Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili assessed the statement by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos that “candidate countries must sever ties with Donald Trump’s MAGA movement in order to join the European Union.”
According to Maka Bochorishvili, such calls are laughable and unacceptable.
“This appears to be a new criterion that is being named for candidate countries. The establishment of such criteria is laughable. Unfortunately, we see that European bureaucrats very often are inclined toward self-isolation and call on others to act the same way. Such calls are truly unacceptable. Today we need more cooperation, more ties with everyone who plays a role in global politics. This is one of the important movements whose representative today governs one of the most powerful countries in the world. Accordingly, severing ties with them is ridiculous and laughable,” - Bochorishvili stated.
In addition to this issue, the Foreign Minister also spoke about Georgia’s participation in the summit held at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and explained that Georgia will join the declarations adopted within the framework of the summit.
“Today technologies are developing rapidly and platforms for cooperation in this direction are very important, especially for small countries that do not have the opportunities that large countries have. The approach that was also voiced today is important - that rights should be distributed equally. What is happening in space today belongs to all states and is not the property of one or two states, and it is also important for global security and economic development. It is important that Georgia is part of these discussions. Georgia has been invited to the platform that the President of France is creating. The creation of this platform is taking place at the initiative of France. The discussions that will follow this event are important. Today three declarations will be adopted here; Georgia will join all three declarations. This is a kind of starting point for cooperation on space at the global level, in which the European Union is also a participant,” - Bochorishvili stated.
