Nia Imnadze persistently provided information to her boyfriend [Aleksandre Gabashvili] and persistently told him that he, and not someone else, for example the police or a prosecutor, should act. That precisely he should act, because he was Aleksandre Gabashvili and was Nia Imnadze’s boyfriend. He was a proud boy and should do what he did, - this statement was made to journalists by prosecutor Ketevan Sonidze in the case of the murder of teacher Giga Avaliani.

According to Ketevan Sonidze’s statement, evidence is presented in the case which, at the hearing on the measure of restraint, confirmed Nia Imnadze’s guilt in the committed crime under the standard of a reasoned assumption, and now already at the pre-trial hearing under an even higher standard.

According to the prosecutor, part of the evidence concerns information obtained through covert investigative actions, as well as incoming and outgoing calls on the mobile telephone and correspondence existing between the accused. In addition, according to the prosecutor, the case contains witness testimonies that confirm Nia Imnadze’s motive and purpose in connection with the committed crime.

“In the information requested from Aleksandre Gabashvili’s mobile telephone there is one very important and meaningful sentence, at which time Aleksandre Gabashvili tells his friend and classmate Ani Naskidashvili - ‘for two weeks she has been telling me that the teacher is bothering me, harassing me, and what will she think of me if I do nothing.’ This sentence has precisely that meaningful load that Nia Imnadze was providing Aleksandre Gabashvili with undesirable information about Giga Avaliani so that Gabashvili would subsequently physically deal with him and take revenge on him, and this acted on Aleksandre Gabashvili’s pride. It is precisely this correspondence that confirms that Aleksandre Gabashvili considered himself obliged, after the provision of this information, to do what Nia Imnadze wanted. Aleksandre Gabashvili writes to his friend, ‘for two weeks she has been telling me.’ That is, [Nia Imnadze, to her boyfriend Aleksandre Gabashvili] persistently provided information and persistently told him that this was happening and that he, and not someone else, for example the police or a prosecutor, should act. That precisely he should act because he was Aleksandre Gabashvili and was Nia Imnadze’s boyfriend. He was a proud boy and should do what he did. That Nia Imnadze was already satisfied with the committed action is shown by the emotional attitude she displays toward her father in conversations conducted through covert investigative actions,” - Ketevan Sonidze stated.

According to the prosecutor, both Nia Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili knew that Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze were members of a group. According to the prosecutor, this is confirmed by evidence.

For reference, in the case of the death of teacher Giga Avaliani, the Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against two more minors - Nia Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili - on 6 August. Imnadze was charged under sub-paragraph “l” of Part 3 of Article 25, 117 of the Criminal Code, which means incitement to intentional grievous bodily harm committed in a group, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 13 years.

Anastasia Beruashvili was charged under Part 2 of Article 376 of the Criminal Code, which means failure to report an especially grave crime. The said action provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years.

According to the indictment, Nia Imnadze told her friends - Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Malania - that her teacher Giga Avaliani was allegedly showing excessive attention toward her, whereby she incited Aleksandre Gabashvili, together with accomplices, to attack Giga Avaliani. Ultimately, according to the plan developed by Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze and Demetre Chikovani, Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze attacked Giga Avaliani in a group, who died 23 days later in a medical institution.

In total, 7 persons have been detained in the case - Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, Ani Naskidashvili, Demetre Chikovani, Giorgi Malania, Nia Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili. Of them, four - Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, Ani Naskidashvili and Demetre Chikovani - have been convicted.
