According to the statement of Eka Kupatadze, the mother of the deceased teacher Giga Avaliani, the lawyer of one of the accused, Nia Imnadze - Giorgi Lekishvili - was “mocking” throughout the entire court hearing.

According to Eka Kupatadze, Giorgi Lekishvili was also using a telephone during the process, because of which even the court marshal had to enter and react.

“Lekishvili’s wife was filming in the courtroom with glasses. The glasses with which she was filming were confiscated, taken away, and then she was let back in again. At the court hearing Lekishvili was laughing uglily, looking at me without blinking. Lekishvili is shameless. I also want to say about Anastasia Beruashvili - in my opinion this girl is also shameless.

An innocent young man has died, been killed, and the figures in this murder were sitting in the dock and their lawyer was laughing throughout the entire process, looking at me without blinking. I was also looking him straight in the eye; I was not looking aside.

The court marshal entered the court hearing and said that they had noticed that Lekishvili was using a telephone; I do not know whether he was streaming live or recording, but the marshal entered with a remark. Lekishvili, in my opinion, is shameless; he was mocking me for the death of my son and he will answer for this, I swear. Lika Lekishvili will answer for today’s laughter. Even if I have to replace Nia Imnadze [in prison], I will still make Lekishvili answer for that laughter,” - Eka Kupatadze stated.

For reference, in the case of the death of teacher Giga Avaliani, the Prosecutor’s Office brought charges against two more minors - Nia Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili - on 6 August. Imnadze was charged under sub-paragraph “l” of Part 3 of Article 25, 117 of the Criminal Code, which means incitement to intentional grievous bodily harm committed in a group, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 13 years.

Anastasia Beruashvili was charged under Part 2 of Article 376 of the Criminal Code, which means failure to report an especially grave crime. The said action provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years.

According to the indictment, Nia Imnadze told her friends - Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Malania - that her teacher Giga Avaliani was allegedly showing excessive attention toward her, whereby she incited Aleksandre Gabashvili, together with accomplices, to attack Giga Avaliani. Ultimately, according to the plan developed by Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze and Demetre Chikovani, Aleksandre Gabashvili and Giorgi Rikadze attacked Giga Avaliani in a group, who died 23 days later in a medical institution.

In total, 7 persons have been detained in the case - Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, Ani Naskidashvili, Demetre Chikovani, Giorgi Malania, Nia Imnadze and Anastasia Beruashvili. Of them, four - Aleksandre Gabashvili, Giorgi Rikadze, Ani Naskidashvili and Demetre Chikovani - have been convicted.
