“Georgian Dream” will also apply to the Constitutional Court regarding the ban of the party “Gakharia for Georgia.” Majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia stated this at a briefing after the majority meeting.

This week a constitutional lawsuit will be submitted to the Constitutional Court, to which the party of former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia will be added.

The majority leader explained why the addition of the party to the list that already existed in relation to other opposition parties has been put on the agenda today and attributed it to Gakharia’s party’s “numerous destructive actions.” At the same time, he assessed the absence of this party in the original version of the lawsuit as “a chance given to them.”

Kirtskhalia also said that Gakharia’s party served a “insidious idea” that the “agent network” of the “collective National Movement” served.

The majority leader added that under the terms of the lawsuit “Georgian Dream” has not requested the termination of the mandates of the “Gakharia for Georgia” deputies in Parliament and in sakrebulos.

“This week a constitutional lawsuit against the so-called parties will be submitted to the Constitutional Court and ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ will be added to these parties. Questions may arise now as to why not then, when those parties were mentioned in the lawsuit that is already in the Constitutional Court today, and the answer to this is very simple - we all remember well their plans when they intended to enter Parliament and then the recognition of their mandates. To tell you honestly, we gave them a chance to really engage in parliamentary life, despite their past and direct coalition with the ‘collective National Movement.’ But look at the direct, crude and insolent non-recognition of the constitutional order in our country, and around this their numerous destructive actions both inside Parliament and in their comments. It is not new for our society what force they represent, whose force they represent. Colour and number do not matter when you serve the insidious idea that the agent network of the ‘collective National Movement’ served. For us, for our political team personally, this is equivalent to the betrayal of our country’s interests. Under the terms of this lawsuit we have not requested the termination of the mandates of the deputies in Parliament or in sakrebulos. The lawsuit is composed of a great many irrefutable facts,” Kirtskhalia stated.

Previously, the ruling party, through a constitutional lawsuit, demanded the recognition as unconstitutional and the ban of the following parties: “United National Movement,” “Coalition for Change,” “Strong Georgia - Lelo,” and “Federalists.”
