At its September session, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe reviewed the issue of the execution of the European Court's judgments regarding the "Georgia v. Russia" inter-state cases, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia reports.

The agency explains that, through Georgia’s initiative and active involvement, the committee reaffirmed its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and called upon the Russian Federation to:

"Fulfill its international obligations and withdraw military forces from Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region;

Stop so-called 'borderization,' and ensure the free and safe movement of the population, access to property, and the opportunity to receive education in the Georgian language within the occupied regions;

Create conditions for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of displaced persons to their homes and put an end to the practices of killings, abductions, torture, illegal detentions, and other grave violations.

Georgia has already achieved historic victories against Russia in Strasbourg—including in the cases concerning the so-called deportees, the August 2008 war, and the 'ongoing occupation,'" notes the press release issued by the Ministry of Justice.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice states that the Georgian government is actively working to ensure that, through the use of all legal and diplomatic mechanisms, the Strasbourg Court's decisions are fully implemented, and justice is restored for the victims.
