The United Kingdom condemns the so-called “elections” held in South Ossetia, UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Secretary Lord Wood said in response to the so-called presidential elections held in the occupied Tskhinvali region.

In his statement, the minister noted that Russia is seeking to consolidate its control over Georgia’s occupied territories, stressing that such actions will not go unanswered.

Lord Wood’s statement was published by the British Embassy in Georgia.

“The United Kingdom condemns the so-called ‘elections’ held in South Ossetia.

Russia’s attempts to further consolidate control over Georgia’s occupied regions undermine Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and we will not leave this unanswered.

Russia must fulfill its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement,” the statement reads.
