The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged one person with rape and other sexual acts committed under aggravating circumstances. This information was released by the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that in Gurjaani Municipality the accused, a man over 60, systematically committed other sexual acts against a minor for several years using violence and taking advantage of the victim’s helplessness, and in August of this year raped the victim. Law-enforcement officers arrested the accused immediately after receiving information about the crime.

“The detainee has been charged under Article 138, Part 3, subparagraph ‘a’ and Part 4, subparagraph ‘a’ of the Criminal Code of Georgia (other sexual acts against a minor under 14 years of age) and Article 137, Part 4, subparagraph ‘c’ (rape of a minor), which provides for a sentence of up to twenty years’ imprisonment.

The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a motion to use detention as a preventive measure against the accused,” the statement says.
