"Our task right now is to protect our country from the consequences of the gamble initiated by Georgian Dream,' Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia – Lelo coalition, stated following a session at the Constitutional Court, where the plenum of judges is reviewing a petition concerning the banning of opposition parties.
According to Japaridze, the objective of Georgian Dream is to strip more than a million Georgians of their right to elect.
“The consequences will cause irreparable harm to our country; therefore, our task now is to protect our nation from the repercussions of the reckless gamble initiated by Georgian Dream.
In essence, banning political parties means stripping more than a million Georgitsans of their right to elect. Georgian Dream seeks to coerce our fellow citizens into voting for a party of its preference, rather than the one the citizens themselves actually support. This constitutes a direct infringement upon the sovereign rights of the Georgian people—and, consequently, we must not allow it to happen,” stated Badri Japaridze.
