Georgian Dream is taking its authoritarian crackdown even further! This is how the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) has responded to the ongoing proceedings at the Constitutional Court of Georgia, where a petition to ban opposition parties is being considered.

According to a statement released by the group, the European Union should respond to this move by Georgian Dream with tougher sanctions.

"GEORGIAN DREAM IS TAKING ITS AUTHORITARIAN CRACKDOWN EVEN FURTHER!

Now, major opposition parties face being banned, potentially stripping hundreds of thousands of Georgian voters of their political representation, including our own ALDE member parties.

After targeting protesters, civil society and independent media, the Georgian Dream is now going after political opposition itself.

The EU must respond with tougher sanctions against those responsible. We stand with the Georgian people fighting for freedom and a European future," reads the statement.
