Mamuka Bakhtadze says US-Georgia relations are at the highest level under President Trump’s administration

The United States is our strategic partner and we have very strong bipartisan support, - Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze said at the 55th Munich Security Conference.

As InterPressNews was informed by the Governmental Administration, the head of the government noted that the US-Georgia relations are at the highest level under President Trump’s administration.

"This fact is very clear. The message is strong. I think that the policies and strategies of the current administration are absolutely adequate to the challenges facing us in the region.

I want to mention a very important fact. The terms "frozen conflict" and "hybrid war" are becoming more and more popular nowadays, but we have had a hybrid war since the early 90s. As for the "frozen conflict", the absence of a direct military confrontation does not mean that there is a peace in the country. Russia continues to take aggressive steps against Georgia. We have witnessed the process of so-called borderization. The fundamental human rights are violated almost every week - our citizens are kidnapped and tortured to death," the Prime Minister said.

The head of the government emphasized the importance of security of the Black Sea region for the whole European and transatlantic space.

"As for diplomacy, we realize that we have undertaken a responsibility for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, but the main problem is that Russia is trying to undermine the philosophy of an international system based on rules. A ceasefire agreement was signed in 2008 and Russia was obliged to withdraw its military units from Georgia. More than ten years have passed since then and we do not have any results. No progress has been made in this regard. Russia continues to occupy our territories. If this continues in the Black Sea region, the Euro-Atlantic space will be more endangered. I think it's clear for everyone," Mamuka Bakhtadze said.
