Grigory Karasin: Georgia should decide what to do with the port of Anaklia, but what we heard about Russia and China is not the tone we would like to hear

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, Russia does not like the tone of the US Secretary of State, Radio Liberty reports.

"We are interested in the development of Georgia’s economic, social, cultural and other fields. Georgia should decide what to do with the port of Anaklia, but what we heard about Russia and China is not the tone we would like to hear,” Grigory Karasin said in Prague before the meeting with Zurab Abashidze, Georgian Prime Minister’s Representative for Relations with Russia.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at a joint briefing held together with Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze in Washington on June 11 that he hoped Georgia would complete the Anaklia port project. “The project will enhance Georgia’s relationship with free economies and prevent Georgia from falling prey to Russian or Chinese economic influence. Those pretended friends do not have Georgia’s best interests at heart," said Mike Pompeo.
