Strategic Partnership Agreement to be signed between Georgia and UK

On October 20-21, Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani will visit the United Kingdom to sign the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Georgia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which will take effect after the UK leaves the European Union.

The document covers a wide range of cooperation and creates a legal framework for strategic partnership, ensuring the maintenance of a free trade regime between Georgia and the UK. In bilateral relations with Great Britain, the agreement will replace the Association Agreement between Georgia and the EU.

The interstate document will be signed by Georgia's Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani and United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab. It is noteworthy that this agreement with Georgia will be the first in the region to be implemented by the United Kingdom after leaving the European Union.

"Within the framework of the visit to the United Kingdom, Davit Zalkaliani will also hold meetings with representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the United Kingdom, including the State Minister for European and American Affairs and members of the Inter-Party Parliamentary Group on Georgia. Within the framework of the visit, the Minister will also visit the Embassy of Georgia in London and the new building of diplomatic representation purchased by the Georgian government. The Minister will meet with representatives of the Georgian diaspora in the United Kingdom as well,” reads the statement.
