Maritime Transport Agency – One Georgian among four sailors kidnapped from Greek-owned vessel

The Maritime Transport Agency has released a statement regarding four sailors kidnapped from the vessel sailing under the Greek flag. According to the agency, one Georgian citizen was kidnapped after the attack and works are underway to release him.

“It was reported that on November 4, gunmen attacked a tanker sailing under the flag of the Republic of Greece. The ship is currently anchored at the port of Lomé in Togo. During the attack, four sailors were abducted out of the 24 crew members of the vessel, including one Greek, two Philippian and one Georgian citizen. We have contacted the owner company through the International Transport Organization (ITF). The company spokesman confirmed the fact of kidnapping the citizen of Georgia. They are working to release the captured crew members.

The Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working together in all possible ways to safely free Georgian sailors from captivity. We have already contacted family members, "the agency said.
