Sergi Kapanadze : Salome Zurabishvili’s recent remark has ones again demonstrated the irresponsibility of our President

The statement of the President of Georgia has ones again demonstrated the irresponsibility of our President, who directly interferes in the internal affairs of our partner country with her statements and assessments, Sergi Kapanadze, one of the leaders of "European Georgia" opposition party said, while commenting on President Salome Zurabishvili’s remarks about the recent developments around Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

According to Kapanadze, "this statement is an example of how the president must not behave."

"The statement of the President of Georgia one again shows how irresponsible the President is. She directly interferes in the internal affairs of our partner country with her statements and assessments. She does not even think about the interests of Georgia, she takes into consideration only the party interests of the Georgian Dream. She does it openly. This is another confirmation of how unsuitable Zurabishvili is for her position. She have made many such statements, but each new statement reaches a new height, and this latest statement is a good example of how the president must not behave and how she must not interfere into the internal affairs of the partner country, "said Sergi Kapanadze.

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has released a statement regarding the recent developments around former President Mikheil Saakashvili in Ukraine. The President expressed hope that “the common past, present and future of the brotherly nations of Georgia and Ukraine will never be questioned."

“Georgia and Ukraine are close strategic partners. Our cooperation is based on centuries-old friendship and respect, our common interests and aspirations. Nevertheless, our partner country is now considering a candidate for a high political position, who was found guilty by the courts of all three instances of Georgia. It should be noted that this has naturally caused the concern of the Georgian government and society.

As the head of state, I am well aware that it is not acceptable in international relations to interfere with internal affairs of another country, however, the selection of a criminal not only according to the Georgian justice system, but also according to the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights, for any official position in the Ukrainian government is also unacceptable and absolutely incomprehensible. No need to mention that he is accused of serious corruption crimes.

All those, who respect the history of our countries and the hardest path we have passed together and who care about the future of our strategic friendship, are concerned about the current situation. I am one of them and the majority of the society is with me. Only those, who want to crack the steady friendship between Georgia and Ukraine, may want such a development of events”, reads the statement.
