Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the Georgian Dream, the change of the electoral system is important for the ruling party, and if this constitutional amendment is failed, the responsibility will be imposed on the opposition.
To the remark of one reporter that the opposition is demanding the release of political prisoners along with changes in the electoral system, Kaladze said the issue was not included in the March 8 agreement.
"I declare with full responsibility that our party is fully prepared to implement all the points reached under the March 8 agreement. It is important for us to change the electoral system and all members of our team will make the decision included in this agreement.
We are ready to support these changes, because there is an important agreement reached through the facilitation of ambassadors. Therefore, if the opposition fails it, of course, it will be their responsibility and I think people will do a good analysis of why the opposition should fail and why the electoral system should not be changed.
The March 8 agreement did not mention the political prisoners, and this is reflected in the text. Anyone can read this and hear also the statements of what our teammates said before and after the meeting and what statements were made by the representatives of the opposition. Consequently, this agreement has never existed. We could not take responsibility for what we did not have the competence to do, ”Kaladze said.
