Salome Zourabichvili calls on governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume dialogue as soon as possible

I would like to appeal to the presidents and authorities of our two friends and neighboring countries – Armenia and Azerbaijan - to resume dialogue as soon as possible. I would like to call for de-escalation and ceasefire, - Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said at the briefing held after the session of the National Security Council of Georgia.

According to the President, Tbilisi is a place where any negotiations can take place between the parties.

"As the President of Georgia, as well as on behalf of the entire Georgian society, I would like to express my deepest condolences for the casualties left by the conflict between our neighboring and friendly two countries. I would like to appeal to the presidents and authorities of our two friends and neighboring countries to resume dialogue as soon as possible. I would like to call for de-escalation and ceasefire. It is in the common interest for all three countries to restore stability, peace and the enormous economic role of this region in the world. This is our common achievement and we must take care of it together. I would also like to address the Minsk Group, which also has a special responsibility in this process and its co-chairs. I would like to reiterate that we are ready to make Tbilisi a place for holding any negotiations. We are ready for anything that will be desirable for the parties.

I would also like to address the European Union - we, all three countries in the region, are Eastern partners. If the neighborhood matters and I am sure it does, since our stability and peace is also in the interest of the EU, it must also use its resources to achieve peace and de-escalation of this situation. This is the common goal of all three countries and nothing is more precious to our citizens than peace and stability," Salome Zourabichvili said.
